Airports

One of the challenges that comes with Post Concussion Syndrome is sensory overload. Too much noise, light, stuff going on is exhausting and overwhelming. So airports are scary.

I found a good strategy to help me with going on holiday for the first time since my fall. We had an early flight, so stayed in the airport hotel which was super helpful for reducing train stress and the amount of travelling in one day. When heading into the airport I donned my trusty cap, sunglasses and silicon earplugs, took the arm of my youngest son, put my head down and followed behind my daughter’s white legwarmers (they’re back in, apparently).  I saw virtually none of the airport other than removing my disguise for the security people.

My friend commented that this approach is “totally rockstar”. I felt more special-needs than rockstar, but next time I’ll dress up in my most glamorous outfit to leave people guessing.  Life is what you make it, so rockstar it is.
